Organix Product Expansion Includes
Eco-Friendly Packaging: A Giveaway!

Organic dog food has not always been easy to find. And when you located a brand, often it was an extremely small company whose availability was problematic. That was my first experience before ending up on the doorstep of Castor and Pollux Petworks. Enter Organix and their full line of organic pet foods. You can now find them in PetSmart, Petco, and many smaller boutique stores across the country and throughout the world. Pet owners have spoken and Castor and Pollux has listened.

The Castor and Pollux line of Organix foods continues to grow. They now offer varieties including Original Adult, Puppy, Weight Management, Grain-free, and Senior. And their latest release, a Small Breed version with tiny kibble to suit your pocket pup, will likely have many dog owners eager to give this new version a try.

In conjunction with this new release, Castor and Pollux has introduced a new, more sustainable bag, the most often recycled HDPE or #2 plastic. With more facilities and municipalities accepting this type of recyclable plastic, Castor and Pollux is proud to offer their food in this more Eco-friendly packaging, and just in time for Earth Day.

Not only will it include a giveaway starting today, but I'll also be covering some of the things you can do on your own to enhance the success of your weight loss program for your paunchy pup.

I have a jack russell who despite lot of exercise struggled maintaining a healthy weight. I looked into ways on making lose his excess and it worked. I added up to 2 tablespoons of pumpkin puree to his kibble as a way to make him feel fuller as pumpkin contains fiber. I also went online and calculated precisely how many calories he should be getting a day and adjusted accordingly his intake. Another tip is I monitored his treats intake in term of calories and if he had a few too many on one day, I cut back on his food intake the following day to balance. It works. People should find out how many calories their dogs should get as often portion advice on dogs' food bags are too high. Last I replaced some of my dog treats with plain bones (I boiled and removed marrow as only fat) which he'll chew on and still enjoy flavor and also give him antlers which he enjoys chewing on, both are not caloric versus treats and are to him "treats".

I take Dumpling out for about 3 hours a day. He loves going to a local dog park that is specifically for small dogs. We do some of the tips that May suggested. We measure out his food and make a mental notes of the calories in his treats to maintain portion control. Also, I occasionally make home-made treats for him, including dehydrated sweet potatoes. He also loves plain non-fat greek yogurt and frozen green beans, so I do not feel 'guilty' giving him these treats in addition to his doggie treats.

My english mastiff enjoys this food alot, but I have to watch her weight because she is already a big girl. Because she is so large I can't walk her too much, so this food is great to help maintain her weight.

We do two walks a day and play as much as we can and measure his food.

Misty said...

Lots of play.

I take my girls for plenty of walks, don't give them to many treats, play with them, let them play with other dogs. Roxy is a picky eater and for the longest time it was hard to get her to eat, since I have had Molly she eats some. Molly was eating a little more when I first got her and I thought she was going to become overweight but she runs around in the backyard more then Roxy and now eat about the same as Roxy(it seems like when I first get a pet they eat eat eat and then start eating normal and go to a normal weight, my boy cat Spunky started to look pregnant, lol) I feed them both some human food, Molly loved Green beans, they both love sweet potatoes, and carrots, since I haven't been working and the weaher has been nice have been trying to take them for at least 2 walks a day, they do not evereat on their regular dry food and occasional wet food, I feed them high quality foods including Organix which is one of their very favorites, but because Roxy gets so picky I have to feed her a variety

Casey is a young, high-spirited 80-lb goldendoodle. I'm always looking for ways to burn off his wild enthusiasm to keep him healthy and at his optimum weight. We live in an apartment without a yard, so spend about an hour a day at the dog park where he can run and swim in addition to our two long walks around the neighborhood every morning and night. I'm careful about his nutrition, worry about preservatives, additives and fillers, and try to use fresh fruits and veggies for his snacks.

Treats are only given as rewards, and we spend a LOT of time throwing ball at the park!

Lots and lots of walks! Bella goes for at least 5 walks a day. It helps keep her weight, and mine, down at a healthy level!

We go for daily walks and buy premium food without additives and fillers.

The dogs go for walks, play fetch and chase. I portion their meals and limit their treats.

Julie Bjerga said...

We go for walks daily, and I carefully monitor his intake of food, treats, and chew toys. I also supplement his diet with a great multivitamin/multimineral, which I think helps as well.

Jack and Zora don't have problems with their weight, Midget has minor problems. I take them out back and get them running, either with fetch or me pretending to chase them or vice versa.

Daily walks and limit snacks.

We have an Aussie who is extremely active and has no issue with weight. We feed her a good healthy diet, walk her daily, and she runs the perimeter of our 20 acres on her own about 3 times a day as well.

i make sure that they have a waistline, that i can feel their ribs easily, and they get weighed at the vet regularly. i dont give them a lot of treats, only at bedtime, and then only 1 small. they do get chews like lamb's ears or cow ears. they get lots of greens: no salted stringbeans, mustard greens or kale steamed w/ olive oil and garlic powder, baby carrots...if we happend to go to a doggy party, then i cut back on their meals for that day. they get plenty of exercise. the oldest loves to play ball, kickball; the other 2 just run around the pen and chase one another. when it gets warmer, i run w/ them. no table scraps at all.

i have 2 bichons that are brothers. One is just right and the other is fat. I have tried a medicine that didn't seem to work. I put him on the treadmill now for 12 minutes at a time and I am not sure if it is working or not. He eats about the same as his brother. He eats faster though. I have a blind lab who need his food out so he can eat when he wants and it seems to ground him where he is with the smell. I am working on it with him. He has had both back legs worked on and has pins in them . If I take him for a walk and he gets excited he pulls so hard and then limps so I have to be careful. I could write a book so I will stop!! Only feeding twice a day and daily walks.

When I started back to work this last year I knew the dogs wouldn't be walked as much so I invested in electric collars for both of them so they can run around the back yard as much as they want. Still like to go on walks though (to make sure the neighborhood is still safe from dangerous squirrels and sneaky cats!)

To maintain my dog's healthy weight I walk the dogs to the dog park, swimming in river in the summer. Not too many treats and potion control on food for each dog measuring the amount the directions say per lb for each one as I have a Lab and dashound and I really have what his weigh as he is 11 yrs old and his back hurts.

LaurKnotter said...

Lots of walks!

Sara said...

Ive very careful with what treats i give and how much exercise they get. If they have gotten a lot of treats because of training then they will likely get less dinner. Because my dogs are performance dogs its very important to keep their weight in check!

Emily R. said...

My dog is anorexic, so no problems keeping him thin, would love to find food he would actually eat.

Nothing, just make sure not to over feed and feed at certain times and make sure to walk them every day.

We play with the dog everyday after school. He gets so excited that he just runs around the backyard half the time as my daughters try to catch him.

Our Rattie is at a perfect weight. She doesn't overeat our Sheltie/beagle mix is another story all together. No matter what we do we just can't seem to keep her from being overweight.

To keep Bentley slim, trim, and fit I surely keep him active in our group Charlotte Small Dog Society. It's a social Meetup group with others who also have small "furbabies" and we go the park together or host different events at each others house.
