I promised to give you some insight on the flavor and how Tanner and Oliver enjoyed the taste. When I opened the first blister pack, I was surprised to see Tanner come running to see what smelled so good. I'm not talking about a dog food smell, but more of a beef gravy sort of aroma.
I quickly noticed that both boys will eat their Steadfast first, before digging into their kibble, when the Steadfast is placed in the bowl. I'd say that's a good sign that they like the flavor.

Bandit my 2 year old tricolor chihuhua that kid of looks like a cousin to Oliver is a jumper i would love to try this supplement and get him started into good health early
ReplyDeleteDexter has been on supplements since he was a small puppy. Whenever he has a big day of playing (a couple hours at the dog park), we make sure he rests the next day.
ReplyDeleteSadie and Rusty are both seven so I have been looking at different types of joint supplements to start them on. I would love to try these and see how they do on them.
ReplyDeleteMy dog is only 11 months old. So far he has had surgeries in each of his shoulders. He had Bilateral OCD lesions in both of his shoulders that he had to have removed. They made it painful for him to walk. He was also diagnosed with hip dysplasia and having OCD lesions almost always means osteoarthritis will develop in time, he is put on joint supplements for life.
ReplyDeleteWilson, my 8 yold cocker spaniel, has mild Luxating Patella in both back legs and some arthritis as a result. So we try to keep his weight down, add supplements to his diet and moderate exercise.

I give them supplements every day and treats that support bone and joint health too. Exercise is another important part of their lives too, along with a good quality dog bed.
ReplyDeleteSteel takes Ester C every day. She broke her leg, twice, as a pup and she needs the lubrication to make it through the day without limping.
ReplyDeleteMy 8 year old longhaired dachshund obviously has a long back which is prone to back injuries (although, thankfully, that hasn't happened yet) so I try to lift him up and down from the bed if possible (sometimes he beats me to it) to try to prevent injuries. He also gets Omega 3 & 6 supplements (AllerG-3) for his allergies, which help with circulation, alleviation of arthritis & osteoarthritis, high cholesterol, kidney dysfunction, and even dog aggression which I recently read a study from the University of Connecticut. He also gets a truly excellent senior multivitamin/multimineral daily nutritional supplement (most of the vitamins they add to your dogs' food are denatured (deactivated) by the heat & extrusion process) from the Only Natural Pet Store called Canine Plus Super Daily Vitamins & Enzymes Senior, and both have really helped him maintain his vigor!

Molimo has had hip dysplasia since she was a year old. She takes all sorts of goodies to keep her going.
ReplyDeleteEster C, Cosequin, Fish oil, a little of this, a little of that. The girls are little pharmacies on paws.
ReplyDeleteDumpling gets fish oil supplements and also treats that support bone and joint health.
ReplyDeleteI already give my dogs joint care supplements to help with arthritis. (All of my dogs are seniors.)
ReplyDeleteI also buy large breed adult diet because it tends to have extra glucosamine & chrondrotin in it.
I give my dog a vitamin that has glucosamine & chrondrotin plus take him on daily walks.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bad mommy we were giving the girls a supplement then funds got tight and we had to stop.
ReplyDeleteWe do still however feed them the best of foods
I would never ever feed my girl a cheap off brand food that Is not good for them. I don't care how tight money gets. I do without to make sure they get a good food.
I have been very lucky that my dogs have not had a problem, even my little girl who lived to 18 years old. I think the fact that I use steps for them to get off and on the furniture has helped to reduce the stress on their joints, and has helped as they aged.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't started giving Nelson supplements yet. I would love to try these! Right no we just try to make sure he eats healthy and gets lots of exercise.
ReplyDeleteTo help with one of my dogs I make sure to keep a stock of hip and joint supplements and mix things up, sometimes she will get a chew and other times I will add a liquid hip/joint supplement to her food.
ReplyDeleteOrthopedic bed. I also give them OFAs. We use it more for the skin benefits, but the joint inflammation benefits are a nice little booster.
ReplyDeletei try not to let them (3) jump down hard on anything, i have a memory foam at my bed b/c the oldest jumps off the bed. i have steps to my bed, i give them food additives and vitamins for joints. i also make sure they stay at a healty and lean weight and get exercise.
ReplyDelete...I don't do anything for them to have healthy joints. Oops. Maybe now is the time to start?
ReplyDeleteCurrently Bentley isn't taking any supplements. He is a 2 year old Shih Tzu, but I wouldn't mind starting him on any.
ReplyDeleteI talk to the vet and follow his recommendations.

Pepper gets a glucosime treat everynight. She is not allowed to jump on or off furniture, she uses pupsteps to get on and off the sofa and bed.
ReplyDeletewell since i have chihuahuas, they are at risk for breaking their little legs from falling off furniture so i put doggie stairs near all sofas and beds :)
ReplyDeleteWe use supplements.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all your interesting input. I was fascinated to hear how many of you use steps to your beds, and even furniture. Oliver, having started his life in agility classes, is quite eager and happy to jump on and off of my bed. So far no notice of discomfort in this. I'll keep watch; thanks again for everyone's comments.
